Catherine Angai is an advocate and researcher who works on developing accountability projects. She has researched, designed and managed projects in the areas of citizen’s voter education, electoral security, human security, grassroots mobilization, youth engagement and applying behavioral insights to social problems. In the past she worked on criminal justice reform, pre-trial detention and legal aid in Nigeria. Working very closely with the police, magistrates and high court judges on prolonged detention periods and the adoption of practice directions that put a cap on detention periods. Catherine’s interests include democratic accountability, human security and community based engagements. Catherine holds an LL.B from the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, an LL.M (Human Rights) from Central European University, Budapest, and an Executive Certificate from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Catherine has over 15 years experience in legal practice, public policy and human rights advocacy. She has served in advisory capacity to the MacArthur Foundation ‘On Nigeria’ Anti-corruption Campaign, and consults for the Behavioral Insights Team, UK. Catherine has authored and co-authored articles and papers on variety of themes and in the democratic and human rights field. She has extensive experience in project management, consultancy, research and conduct of trainings
